  • Greatest sacrifice: B-24 Liberator pilot identified, repatriated after 73 years

    As his B-24 Liberator started a spiraling descent after encountering hostile anti-aircraft fire over Bulgaria, 1st Lt. John Crouchley knew what he had to do. Holding tightly onto the controls and desperately fighting with two badly damaged engines, he made sure his nine-strong crew escaped with their lives before the aircraft hit the ground. It was June 28, 1944, and the crew of “The Miss Yankee Rebel” were on their way home from a bombing mission in Romania. Those nine Airmen lived to see another day; their pilot perished along with his aircraft.
  • Honorary commanders gain first-hand experience of RAF Mildenhall mission

    Honorary commanders flew on a U.S. Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker to gain an insight into the 100th Air Refueling Wing mission during RAF Mildenhall Honorary Commanders Day June 26. The Honorary Commanders’ program brings together dignitaries and leaders from the community in an effort to foster mutual understanding and trust by assisting base commanders with networking in the surrounding areas.
  • Mildenhall hosts 5th annual European Tanker Symposium

    The 100th Air Refueling Wing hosted 13 NATO nations during the 5th annual European Tanker Symposium, May 14-18. The symposium, held every year since 2012, allows NATO allies to share their experiences, discuss mixed tanker formation standards, and build on tanker integration.
  • Bloody Hundredth demonstrates reach, builds partnerships in Greece

    The U.S. Air Force and the Hellenic air force participated in an air to air refueling training mission over the Mediterranean Sea Oct. 26. From the moment the wheels of the KC-135 Stratotanker landed at the Athens International Airport in Greece, training commenced. This was the first time landing at an international airport for all the pilots on board.

    A U.S. Air Force KC-135 Stratotanker from the 100th Air Refueling Wing landed at the Athens International Airport in Athens, Greece, Oct. 25. The Stratotanker is scheduled to participate in a short air to air refueling training mission with the Hellenic air force in the upcoming days.
