Ramstein AB continues its support for Operation Allies Refuge, the largest airlift in U.S. history. The installation has been serving as the largest reception port for evacuees within U.S. European Command since Aug. 20.

U.S. Air Force Airmen, U.S. Army Soldiers, the host nation, interagency partners and hundreds of volunteers are supporting the effort to care for the thousands of evacuees transiting through Ramstein AB to their onward destination.

The advanced medical care, security, and support of Afghans and other evacuees has required close coordination with medical specialists, NATO security officials, and volunteers offering their assistance.

Ramstein’s evacuation status, as of 8:30 a.m. Sept. 7, 2021:

  • Approximately 140 aircraft carrying Afghan evacuees have arrived to Ramstein Air Base.
  • Currently, there are a total of approximately 11,900 evacuees on Ramstein Air Base and at Rhine Ordnance Barracks (ROB) awaiting travel.
  • Within the next 12 hours, we anticipate approximately 230 more evacuees to arrive at Ramstein Air Base.
  • More than 22,000 evacuees have departed on approximately 90 flights from Ramstein Air Base to the United States or another safe location.
  • Within the next 12 hours, we anticipate more than 1,100 additional evacuees to depart Ramstein Air Base.
