Over the past week, Airmen and aircraft assigned to U.S. Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa attended Farnborough International Airshow, in Farnborough, England, July 22-26.

Held every two years, FIA serves as a global platform for the aerospace, aviation and defense industries to meet at the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre.

While attending FIA, the U.S. military highlights the value of U.S. force capabilities, innovation, presence in Europe, and commitment to Allies and partners.

“Farnborough International Airshow is yet another opportunity for the U.S. military to come together with our U.K. and NATO Allies and partners to display the dynamic capabilities of our various aircraft and highlight our collective readiness,” said U.S. Air Force Gen. James B. Hecker, commander, USAFE-AFAFRICA. “Our presence in Europe and participation in events like Farnborough International Airshow are the reason we have such strong relationships with our Allies and partners; our strength lies in our unity – and it has never been greater than it is today.”

FIA also provides opportunities for bilateral engagements between Allies and partners to discuss shared priorities of interoperability and security.

Additionally, industry partners use the air show to demonstrate new capabilities and technologies to interested parties around the world.

USAFE-AFAFRICA aircraft at the show included flyovers by an F-15E Strike Eagle and F-35 Lightning II from RAF Lakenheath, England and aircraft statics of an F-35 from RAF Lakenheath, England and an F-16 Fighting Falcon from Aviano Air Base, Italy.

The flyovers and static displays provided an up-close opportunity for Allies and partners, industry leaders and the public to talk to the air crew about their aircraft, experience in the U.S. Air Force, and how they contribute to USAFE-AFAFRICA’s mission.

Participation in FIA is one of the many ways USAFE-AFAFRICA works with Allies and partners to remove barriers and foster a sense of solidarity and mutual trust. The integration and collaboration that takes place at FIA enhances our ability to operate together and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our Allies and partners in the days ahead.
