KC-135 Stratotankers arrive in Bulgaria for Saber Guardian

KC-135 Stratotankers and Airmen assigned to the 151st Air Refueling Squadron, 134th Air Refueling Wing, McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base, Knoxville, Tennessee, and the 126th Air Refueling Squadron, 128th Air Refueling Wing, General Mitchell Air National Guard Base, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, arrived at Burgas, Bulgaria, to support exercise Saber Guardian 19.

Romania Land Forces Command and U.S. Army Europe are co-leading exercise Saber Guardian 19 through June 24, 2019, at numerous locations throughout host nations Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania. The two major objectives of the exercise are to increase interoperability among participating nation militaries and strengthening regional security cooperation. 

This year’s iteration has approximately 8,000 participants from six ally and partner nations to include Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Turkey and the U.S. The combined training enables allies and partners to effectively respond to regional crises and meet security needs by improving the security of borders, ensuring energy security, and countering threats such as terrorism, illegal trafficking, and weapons proliferation.
