U.S. Airmen and Soldiers conduct a proof of concept exercise in Poland

  • Published
Airmen and Soldiers deployed for one month to 31st Tactical Air Base, Poznan-Krzesiny, Poland, in July, to test their ability to rapidly setup facilities, equipment and vehicles as part of the European Contingency Air Operations Sets effort. A first for the U.S., this effort sets the standard for future exercises and real world Deployable Air Base System activations. This proof of concept exercise is under the European Defense Initiative’s enhanced prepositioning line of effort and increases U.S. responsiveness and readiness by pre-positioning ammunition, fuel and equipment and infrastructure improvements that enables our ability to rapidly respond against threats in a location where little infrastructure exists.

The Airmen deployed from Ramstein Air Base, Germany and various stateside U.S. Air National Guard and Reserve units. The Soldiers are from the 612th Movement Control Team out of Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. They are deployed to Europe in support of the U.S. Army Europe Atlantic Resolve Logistics Task Force to support ground movement of equipment in Poland, Slovakia and Hungary and are based in Poznan, Poland during their deployment. The task force falls under the mission command of 16th Sustainment Brigade and the 21st Theater Support Command, both of which are based in Germany. Our rotational efforts in Europe underscores our ability to deter current and potential threats, assure our allies, and respond in a timely way should deterrence fail.
