U.S. Air Force returns RAF Ely housing to UK government Published Dec. 21, 2017 U.S. Air Forces in Europe and Air Forces Africa Public Affairs RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany -- The U.S. Air Force has identified the return of 88 military housing units at Royal Air Force Ely to the U.K. government in an effort to reduce excess infrastructure capacity and more efficiently array existing force structure within the European theater. The decision to transfer these housing units was made after a comprehensive analysis and is anticipated to be completed in early- to mid-2018. This action will have no impact on the current number of U.S. forces or local national personnel in the U.K. The U.K. remains an essential location for forward-based and ready U.S. forces. Close ties with the U.K. government and integrated missions with the Royal Air Force remain integral to America's ability to execute our missions in Europe. For more information, contact U.S. Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa Public Affairs at +49 06371-476558 or e-mail usafepao.pao@us.af.mil or usafepa.pastaffdutyofficer@us.af.mil.
