25 years later: U.S., German community climbs together to never forget
U.S. Air Force and German firefighters climb the steps of Fritz-Walter-Stadion during the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in Kaiserslautern, Germany, Sept. 11, 2026. Wearing firefighting gear, participants completed 30 loops totaling 2,071 steps — the equivalent of 110 flights of the World Trade Center towers. The climb honors the first responders who ascended the towers on Sept. 11, 2001, including the 343 New York City firefighters who lost their lives that day. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt.
