Defending the “High North”, Exercise Northern Viking 2026 kicks off in Iceland

Grynkewich, NATO Supreme Allied Commander Europe, commander of U.S European Command, delivers remarks during the opening ceremony of exercise Northern Viking 26 (NV26) at Keflavik Air Base, Iceland, Aug. 18, 2026. NV26 strengthens interoperability and force readiness between the U.S., Iceland and Allied nations, enabling multi-domain command and control of joint and coalition forces in the defense of Iceland and sea lines of communication in the Greenland-Iceland-United Kingdom (GIUK) gap.
