Remembering our fallen heroes
A member of the Ramstein military motorcycle club from the Kaiserslautern Military Community walks through the entrance of the Lorraine American Cemetery Nov. 11, 2016, at St. Avold, France. Veterans Day is observed annually on November 11 and commemorates military veterans who currently serve or have served the U.S. armed forces, including those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. According to the DoD and Veterans Administration, since World War I, approximately 624,000 U.S. servicemembers have been killed in action battling in wars and conflicts. The Lorraine American Cemetery contains the buried remains of over 10,000 of them. It is the largest burial site of U.S. servicemembers in Europe. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Lane T.
