Firefighters ‘hang around,’ train for rescues
U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Jacob Dietmeyer, 100th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department firefighter from Gurnee, Ill., climbs the railing of a water tower before rappelling Sept. 4, 2013, on RAF Mildenhall, England. Rappelling involves at least two people, one of which performs the actual rappelling, while the other feeds a safety line down in case the person rappelling begins to fall. The water tower from which the firefighters rappelled is 118 feet tall, almost three stories higher than what the firefighters normally train on.
