Joint Biological Training Exercise

U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Samuel Helfrich, 65th Civil Engineer Squadron emergency management technician, uses the HazMat ID to test a powder substance for simulated hazardous material during a joint biological response training exercise Sept. 20, 2013, at Lajes Field, Azores. The HazMat ID has an internal catalogue of hazardous substances that allows the joint team to test and make initial identification. The sample will be sent to a laboratory for definitive identification. The exercise is to test the effectiveness of emergency managers and bioenvironmental engineers working together in a crisis situation, maintain proficiency in duties, and identify strength or improvement capabilities.
