Breathe easy: Firefighters train on SCBA to ensure own, others lives kept safe

U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Noah Leiter, 100th Civil Engineer Squadron Fire Department assistant chief of fire prevention from Carthage, Mo., checks the oxygen monitor on his self-contained breathing apparatus during training April 14, 2014, on RAF Mildenhall, England. All 100th CES firefighters are performing SCBA training throughout April. In addition to reviewing a written training plan, they have to complete a course of six stations while working in pairs, including carrying a simulated casualty, using a rope to hoist a rolled hose to the top of a flight of stairs, and climbing up and down a ladder twice, all while wearing an SCBA and full personal protective equipment.
