Sabers honor first CMSAF
SPANGDAHLEM AIR BASE, Germany -- Members of the 52nd Fighter Wing salute during a memorial retreat ceremony for the first Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force, Paul Airey, March 27, 2009. Chief Master Sgt. Airey was the first CMSAF. During his tenure he worked to improve low retention during the Vietnam Conflict. CMSAF Airey led a team that laid the foundation for the Weighted Airman Promotion System, and he advocated for an Air Force-level senior noncommissioned officer academy.
