CAMP LEMONIER, Djibouti -- Maj. Gen. Ronald Ladnier (left), commander of 17th Air Force (Air Forces Africa), passes the 449th Air Expeditionary Group guidon to new group Commander, Col. Matthew Smith, in a change of command ceremony March 9 at Camp Lemonier, Djibouti. At home station, Colonel Smith is the chief of Combat Operations for the 617th Air and Space Operations Center at Ramstein. Ougoing Commander, Colonel Ullmann, now resumes his position as the head of Combat Operations at the 617th. Colonel Ullmann was cited by General Ladnier for his “excellent leadership” and received the Meritorious Service Medal for his tenure at the 449th.
