Blast from the past
RAF ALCONBURY, United Kingdom -- Councilor of Whittlesey, Derek Stebbing, dedicated a blade of a P-51 Mustang propeller and a dashboard instrument clock to Airmen of the 501st Combat Support Wing here April 29 to honor the U.S. support provided during WWII. Because the P-51 Mustang was a fighter aircraft, the councilor said he decided the best place to showcase it was at RAF Alconbury, since the base provided defense for British bombers as escorts and attacked enemy bombers coming from London during WWII.
