Hair today, gone tomorrow

RAF MILDENHALL, England -- Master Sgt. Gary Kimes, 351st Air Refueling Squadron first sergeant, shaves a stripe down the center of Lt. Col. Thomas Torkelson’s, 351st ARS commander, head during a St. Baldrick’s Foundation event at the 100th Operations Group auditorium April 7, 2011. According to the St. Baldrick’s Foundation website, the foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding research to find cures for childhood cancers. Volunteers for the organization raise funds by taking pledges to shave off their hair. Colonel Torkelson held a silent auction for the right to shave his head, raising more than $1,000. Altogether, the Century Tanker Committee raised more than $7,500 for the foundation. (U.S. Air Force photo/Airman 1st Class Rachel Waller)
