Fallen Liberty Defenders: A memory set in stone
ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England – Airmen of the 48th Security Forces Squadron perform a 21-gun salute for fallen defenders during the dedication of the Liberty’s Fallen Defenders Memorial March 2, 2012. The ceremony was held on the one year anniversary of the shooting at Frankfurt International Airport, Germany. A stone monument honoring the memory of 48th Security Forces Squadron Senior Airmen Jason D. Nathan and Nicholas J. Alden was unveiled before more than 250 Airmen and civilians. Nathan was killed in action while deployed to Afghanistan in June 2007. Alden was killed during the Frankfurt shooting while preparing to deploy to Afghanistan in March 2011. The monument will also serve as a reminder of all Liberty Defenders who have fallen since 2001. (U.S. Air Force photo by Senior Airman Tiffany M. Deuel)
