U.S. members join Portuguese in Praia Fest parade
Members of Lajes' African American Heritage Committee played the roles of African hunters and warriors during the Praia Fest opening parade Aug. 4. The parade traced the roots of "Carnival" and showed the people of Terceira how celebrations began in the villages of Africa and then progressed through the years into festivals and carnival parades. This was the first time in history U.S. members of Lajes Field were invited to join the Portuguese community in Praia Fest by participating in their opening parade. (Photo by Guido Melo)
