K9 Airman on recovery track after surgery
Staff Sgt. Manuel Gamboa, 31st Security Forces Squadron military working dog trainer, holds Soma, 31st SFS explosives detection dog, during an examination at the base’s veterinary clinic March 29. The Aviano Air Base kennel employs attendants to ensure each dog is fed and kept clean at all times and on-call veterinary assistants in case of an emergency. Additionally, each dog handler and trainer takes their responsibilities seriously, working 12-15 hour shifts and coming in during their time off to take care of their dog.
