Road to Hieropolis
The ancient road lined with ruins of Greek Corinthian columns leading into historical city of Hieropolis Castabala is seen from the top of the castle Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009, at Hieropolis, Turkey. Hieropolis is known for Darius of Persia passing through in 333 B.C., its real permanence in history was 300 years later when it was the capital of an independent kingdom under Tarcondimotus. Tarcondimotus sided with Pompeii against Caesar and was killed in 31B.C. at the battle of Actium where the fleet of Marc Antony and Cleopatra was defeated.
