A CV-22 Osprey operated Sept. 20-23, 2016 from Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany, for acoustic testing in preparation for the scheduled move of the 352nd Special Operations Wing.

Officials will use this information to develop noise models that will help establish noise protection zones around Spangdahlem.

“The main intent of that was to capture the acoustic signature of that aircraft and the different configurations it can fly in as well as the ground noise that it generates,” said Richard Sheridan, project lead and program analyst for U.S. Air Forces Europe. “This is one of the many different elements that need to go into this over all process that will allow us, in the end, to construct for and allow the 352nd SOW to Spangdahlem.”

The 352nd SOW, currently stationed at Royal Air Force Mildenhall, United Kingdom, will relocate to Spangdahlem as part of the European Infrastructure Consolidation realignment slated over the coming years.

“We’ve built a really strong team partnership and everybody’s intent is to make sure this goes forward as quickly and efficiently as possible,” Sheridan said.
