In one of the first official duties of his new command, Gen. Frank Gorenc, U.S. Air Forces in Europe and U.S. Air Forces Africa commander, hosted a visit by Minister President Malu Dreyer of Rheinland-Pfalz at the headquarters here, Aug 6.

The visit opened lines of communication, and highlighted the important relationship between U.S. installations and their host communities.

"Our partnership is long term, and the stability it provides is not only good for U.S. forces, but also for the region and Europe as a whole," Gorenc said.

The state of Rheinland-Pfalz hosts both Ramstein and Spangdahlem air bases, and is home to nearly 17,000 American Airmen and civilian employees.

"I thank General Gorenc and his staff for taking time for us to meet together," said Dreyer. "Ramstein is very important to our community, and I appreciate this opportunity to discuss matters of importance to both of us."

During the visit, Dreyer was briefed on the USAFE - AFAFRICA mission, and discussed items of mutual interest with Gorenc. She also had the opportunity to observe Airmen at work during a base tour.

USAFE has long enjoyed an excellent relationship with its partners in the region. Dreyer also has a history of positive interaction with Americans, having spent a year as an exchange student at Claremont High School in California.

The two leaders look forward to building on the outstanding relationship already enjoyed by USAFE- AFAFRICA and the state of Rheinland-Pfalz.

"German citizens are very proud to work here," Dreyer said. "Working together with our American friends is truly something special."
