Turkish and U.S. Air Force service members came together to test the BAK-12 aircraft arresting barrier system Feb. 24, here.

With the help of Airmen assigned to the 39th Air Base Wing and Turkish air force service members, Turkish air force pilots sent two F-4 Phantoms down the runway at landing speed to test the integrity of the barrier system.

The aircraft arresting barriers are tested anually at Incirlik AB to ensure that the system is fully operational. Reasons arresting barriers may be used include, emergencies involving brake failure, steering problems or if an aircraft cannot safely use the full length of the runway.

The annual test is just one example of how Turkish air force and U.S. Air Force service members partner together to ensure mission readiness at Incirlik AB.
