Out with the old: Airmen remove decommissioned antenna

Airmen from Headquarters Air Force Flight Standards Agency-European Regional Maintenance Center, Kapaun Air Station, Germany, teamed with the 31st Operations Support Squadron ground radar maintenance flight and the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., to remove a Ground Pulse Navigation-20 Airport Surveillance Radar antenna from a 77-foot tower May 13, 2015, at Aviano Air Base, Italy. The 35-year-old system was recently replaced by the new GPN-30 ASR system, which is used by air traffic controllers to monitor aircraft around Aviano.
