Ramstein Air Base, Germany -- Maj. Gen. Paul Moga, Third Air Force commander, visited key forward-operating units across Europe from April 29-30, 2025, including the Heavy Airlift Wing (HAW) at Pápa Air Base, Hungary; the 731st Expeditionary Attack Squadron (EATKS) at Campia Turzii, Romania; and the 717 EATKS at Larissa Hellenic Air Base, Greece. The Expeditionary Attack Squadrons are geographically separated units attached to the 31st Fighter Wing at Aviano Air Base, Italy.
During his visit, Moga received detailed mission briefs, recognized outstanding Airmen, and gained insight into each unit’s capabilities. These visits reinforced the strategic value of U.S. forces positioned across Europe, emphasizing readiness to respond rapidly to threats and enhancing coordination with Allied partners.
The HAW supports the Strategic Airlift Capability, an independent and multinational program that provides assured access to strategic military airlift capability for its member nations. The operations include national support to European Union, NATO and United Nations operations or national military, peace-keeping and humanitarian relief operations.
The missions of the EATKS are to deliver persistent attack and real-time Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance capabilities to three combatant commands, supporting regional anti-threat engagements against U.S. and allied interests.
Maj. Gen. Moga’s tour highlighted how forward presence, joint training, and Allied cooperation serve as a force multiplier - ensuring that U.S. forces remain well-positioned, equipped, and ready to deter or defeat any threat.
