On 24 June 2024, NATO Allied Command Transformation awarded the U.S. Air Force’s Inter-European Air Forces Academy  the distinction of Unconditional Accreditation. This prestigious recognition affirms IEAFA’s continuing contribution to NATO’s priorities and readiness, adherence to NATO's educational standards and its commitment to continuous improvement. Notably, IEAFA is the first U.S. Air Force institution to receive this NATO accreditation, joining the ranks of other DoD institutions including the U.S. Army Combined Arms Training Center and the U.S. Partner Language Training Center colocated with the George C. Marshall Center.

IEAFA plays a vital role in educating and training military personnel from NATO and Partner for Peace nations as well as nations in the U.S. AFRICOM area of responsibility. Its mission focuses on strengthening security cooperation and enhancing interoperability through high-quality education, training, and lasting international relationships. As a premier institution for military education in Europe and Africa, IEAFA combines officer and enlisted training to foster positive operational command team relationships and a professionalized noncommissioned officer corps.

IEAFA’s accreditation journey began in 2020. After successfully securing “Selected” status for its Professional Military Education courses in 2021, the academy completed a rigorous NATO evaluation and hosted an onsite review by a team of experts. This six-year accreditation solidifies IEAFA’s position as a leading institution for NATO-aligned military education and training and converts IEAFA’s PME courses to “NATO Approved” status.
