Officers nominated for brigadier general Published March 13, 2006 RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany (USAFENS) -- The Air Force Senior Leader Management Office has announced that several U.S. Air Forces in Europe colonels have been nominated by the President to the Senate for appointment to the grade of brigadier general, United States Air Force.The nominees are:Col. David L. Goldfein, Commander, 52nd Fighter Wing, Spangdahlem Air Base, Germany. He is responsible for the wing’s F-16CJ and A/OA-10 aircraft, and TPS-75 radar systems in support of NATO and the National Command Authorities. Colonel Goldfein received his commission from the United States Air Force Academy. Before arriving at Spangdahlem AB, he was the commander of the 366th Operations Group at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho. He also served as commander, 555th Fighter Squadron, Aviano AB, Italy. Colonel Goldfein is a command pilot with more than 3,700 hours in the T-37, T-38 and F-16C/D.Col. James O. Poss is the Director of Intelligence, at Headquarters, USAFE, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. He is responsible for the command’s intelligence operations, assessments and recommendations to the United States European Command. He received his commission through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Southern Mississippi. Prior to assuming his duties with USAFE, Colonel Poss commanded the 70th Intelligence Wing at Fort George G. Meade, Md., where he supported the National Security Agency worldwide. He also commanded the 488th Intelligence Squadron, Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England , flying RC-135’s in combat during the Kosovo Air War and Operation NORTHERN WATCH against Iraq. Colonel Poss was Chief of Intelligence for Central Command Air Forces during the initial phase of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM against the Taliban in Afghanistan.Col. A.J. Stewart, formerly Assistant Director of Air and Space Operations, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe, Ramstein AB, Germany, is currently Special Assistant to the USAFE Vice Commander. Col. Stewart received his commission from the United States Air Force Academy. Prior to assuming current duties at HQ USAFE, Colonel Stewart commanded the 71st Flying Training Wing at Vance Air Force Base, Okla. He was also commander of the 6th Operations Group, MacDill AFB, Fla. Colonel Stewart is a command pilot with more than 2,900 hours in the KC-135, KC-135R and T-1.Also nominated are two U.S. Air Force colonels serving in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization:Col. Joseph D. Brown IV, Executive Assistant to Supreme Allied Commander Europe and to Commander, United States European Command, Mons, Belgium. Colonel Brown was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program. Prior to arriving at his present assignment, he served as commander, 28th Bomb Wing, Ellsworth AFB, S.D. Colonel Brown has also commanded at the 28th Operations Group, Ellsworth AFB, S.D. and the 28th Bombardment Squadron, Dyess AFB, Texas. He is a command pilot with more than 4,000 hours in the T-37, T-38, E-8, KC-135, B-52 and B-1.Col. Daniel R. Eagle, Director of Staff, Joint Air Power Competence Center, Kalkar, Germany. Colonel Eagle gained his commission in 1978 through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of Portland in Oregon. Prior to his arrival at Kalkar, he served as the Director of Staff at Component Command Air Ramstein AB. Colonel Eagle has commanded a squadron in Japan and a group at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is a command pilot with more than 2,600 hours in the T-37, T-38, TG-4, TG-7, T-41, F-15, F-16, L-29, L-39, YAK-18T.Appointments become effective upon Senate confirmation. The Air Force is authorized to have 279 general officers at a time.
