USAFE libraries sponsoring bookmark design contest Published March 15, 2006 By USAFE News Service SEMBACH AIR BASE, Germany (USAFENS) -- U. S. Air Forces in Europe Libraries and Project Wizard are sponsoring a Bookmark Design Contest April 1-30 to celebrate National Library Week and the Month of the Military Child. The contest is open to local artists in kindergarten through grade 12. Top winners in each category will have their artwork featured on hundreds of bookmarks that will be distributed to customers in USAFE Libraries during 2005. The winning bookmarks will also be posted on the official USAFE Library website at: www.usafelibraries.org. “Youth and teens are invited to design a bookmark that expresses the theme of National Library Week – ‘Something for everyone at your library,’” said Melinda Mosley, USAFE command librarian. “Entries can be submitted to any USAFE Library location, but must be received no later than April 30.” Entries will be judged in the following grade categories: K-3, 4-6, 7-9 and 10-12, Ms. Mosley said. Home-schooled children should enter in the comparable grade level. Entries will be judged on originality, design and reproducibility. All artwork must be original. Artwork will become the property of USAFE Libraries and will not be returned. Bookmarks must be black and white (or grayscale) and must be submitted on an official entry form to be eligible to win. Entry forms can be downloaded from the USAFE Libraries website at: www.usafelibraries.org/5-6.php. Artists may use any media that will reproduce clearly. “But remember, bookmarks are small, so simple artwork may be better,” Miss Mosley said. Winning entries in each category from the USAFE Base libraries and the USAFE Library Service Center will compete in the command’s overall competition where one winner in each category will be selected.
