Ramstein was named one of three finalists for the Commander-in-Chief’s Installation Excellence Award competition Dec. 9.

The award recognizes the outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations, and the winner of the Air Force award receives $500,000 that is usually put back into the community.

“This nomination is a direct reflection of all the hardwork this base has shown this past year,” said Brig. Gen. Rob Kane, 86th Airlift Wing and Kaiserslautern Military Community commander. “I’m very proud that our Airmen have been recognized at the Air Force level for their commitment to excellence.”

Ramstein was nominated in November by U.S. Air Forces in Europe for the award.

“Excellent installations enable better mission performance and enhance the quality of life for military men and women and their families,” said 1st Lt. Tracy Page, USAFE Public Affairs. “Each winning installation succeeded in providing excellent working, housing and recreational conditions for the people assigned to that installation.”

Ramstein will compete for the award in late January.

“Our Airmen’s hard work, devotion to duty and selfless dedication has been recognized with the recognition as a finalist,” said Col. Kurt Lohide, 435th Air Base Wing commander. “I have no doubt that the inspectors will see that as well.”

The selection board will arrive at Ramstein late January or early February for two days and will visit as much of the base as possible to determine if Ramstein is the best installation in the Air Force.
