AF Climate Survey launches Oct. 1

U.S. Air Forces in Europe members have a chance to provide Air Force leadership with feedback through the 2005 Air Force Climate Survey, which runs Oct. 1 through Nov. 23.

The survey, offered every two years since 1997, measures how people feel about leadership, supervision, training, recognition and other aspects of the Air Force.

This year’s survey also measures enduring competencies such as effective communication, teamwork, judgment and adaptation under pressure.

“The motto of the 2005 Climate Survey, ‘Speak Today, Shape Tomorrow,’ accurately reflects the impact this survey has on our Air Force,” said Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Gerald Murray. “It’s your chance to provide honest and straightforward answers to issues that directly affect you and your fellow Airmen. Your identity is protected and every response is reviewed for consideration.”

The survey provides a total force perspective and includes active-duty members, civilians, the Air Force Reserve Command and Air National Guard.

Of the Air Forces’ overall 50 percent participation rate for the 2003 survey, USAFE ranked third among the major commands with 58.9 percent assigned weighing in to provide valuable feedback.

The Air Force Climate Survey is a method for military members to anonymously provide honest information and feedback on factors that impact their day-to-day environment, including leadership and the availability of resources, so military leadership has an accurate picture of their organization and are able to pinpoint areas that need improvement.

One example of action taken from survey feedback significantly improved not only the USAFE Recognition process, but resulted in a change in AFI 36-2805, Special Trophies and Awards, reducing write-ups for annual awards to one page, said Mrs. Sandi Lada, USAFE Air Force Climate Survey Team.

“The Air Force leadership values the unique perspective you can provide on your unit,” said Mrs. Lada. “You have vital knowledge of what is successful and what needs attention. Whether your unit, work center or leadership merits praise or requires improvement, by taking the survey, you exercise your rights to speak out and be heard."

The 2005 survey will consist of four sections: Organization Climate factors, Enduring Competencies, Command-specific questions and Air Force analysis questions.

The survey can be completed online anytime during the survey period from either a government or personal computer at https://afclimatesurvey.af.mil.

For more information about the survey, individuals can contact their assigned unit POC, or Mrs. Lada, the USAFE POC, at 480-4096.
