Commander invites all to USAFE Idol finals Published March 20, 2006 By Capt. Alisen Iversen USAFE News Service RAMSTEIN AIR BASE, Germany (USAFENS) -- The commander, U.S. Air Forces in Europe, invites all military members, civilians and their families to attend the USAFE Idol Talent Show at 7 p.m. April 23 in the Ramstein Officers’ Club. The event will be a great opportunity to see and hear the tremendous vocal talent from across the command, said General Robert H. “Doc” Foglesong. “The USAFE Idol Talent contest is going to be a fantastic show,” said the general. “We’ve got a lot of talented people in USAFE -- the competition is going to be tough! I invite everyone to come out to hear the music and enjoy the entertainment.” The final event culminates six weeks of competitions held at eight USAFE installations. In addition to the tremendous amount of talent, Mandy Smith-Nethercott, USAFE Services chief of marketing and entertainment, said she’s been impressed with the community support at each base-level competition. “The communities really came out to support all of the contestants,” said Ms. Smith-Nethercott. “For the finals we are expecting an even bigger crowd to come out to support the finalists. It’s going to be a great event.” The winners of the base-level competitions will compete at the finals. The finalists are: Senior Airman Elsie Lengyon, Lajes Field, Azores Senior Airman Rhonda Smiley, Aviano Air Base, Italy Master Sgt. Irand Denton, Royal Air Force Mildenhall, England Staff Sgt. Charles Klode, Menwith Hill Station, England Master Sgt. Tony Anthony, Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland (winner of the RAF Lakenheath, England competition) Maj. Larry Speer, Ramstein AB, Germany Senior Airman Michael Lemorie, Spangdahlem AB, Germany Tech. Sgt. James Mull, Incirlik AB, Turkey The event is free and open to all Department of Defense cardholders, family members and guests. Tickets are required and may still be available through a point of contact at your unit. Standing room-only tickets will be available at the door.
