NFL wide receiver to visit USAFE

A record-holding rookie wide receiver is visiting several U.S. Air Forces in Europe bases May 19-25 as a role model in the Extreme Summer 2005 program.

Arizona Cardinals Wide Receiver Larry Fitzgerald is scheduled to visit Aviano Air Base, Italy, May 19; Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England, May 21; Lajes Field, Azores, May 23; and Moron AB, Spain, May 25.

The Extreme Summer program encourages people to get involved in a variety of existing and new services and community activities, and it allows people to earn points by participating.

In addition to offering prizes and a host of summer activities, Extreme Summer 2005 also offers participants the opportunity to meet and interact with role models who will tour USAFE bases throughout the summer.

Mr. Fitzgerald said he is excited about the opportunity of participating in the Extreme Summer program and sharing his experiences with USAFE Airmen and their families.

“I am looking forward to my trip overseas to visit the troops,” he said. “I am honored to be a part of the tour and look forward to meeting the men and women of our Armed Forces and I respect them for fighting for our country on a day-to-day basis.”

Other visiting role models include U.S. Army drill sergeant and former member of “Survivor: Vanuatu – Islands of Fire” Lea ‘Sarge’ Masters, who vists in June, storytellers James Bowen and Gaye Teipel, visiting in July, and superhero ‘Batman,’ who visits in August
