Leaders from the Air Mobility Command, the 52nd Fighter Wing and the 726th Air Mobility Squadron met here June 6 at the new AMC Operations Facility to tour the site and discuss the “single team mission” philosophy behind the new airlift mission, slated for completion this fall.

Maj. Gen. Loren Reno, AMC director of logistics at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., said the culmination of more than six years of expansive construction here and the absorption of the Frankfurt-adjacent Rhein-Main Air Base, Germany, will “broaden the focus of Spangdahlem AB people as the 726th Air Mobility Squadron stands up to enhance global vigilance.”

The final stages of the 726th AMS introduction in October will mark the onset of strategic, theater and contract commercial air mobility support for Europe, Africa and Southwest Asia, said Lt. Col. Jim Kirk, 726th Air Mobility Squadron director of operations and soon-to-be 726th AMS commander.

General Reno described the 44,000 square foot RMTP hub as a depot capable of processing for transport upwards of 100 people at once with the probability for more in the near future.

“This building as part of RMTP gives us better capability to get more deployers and space-A passengers on aircraft within Department of Defense regulations,” the general said.

The general said military people haven’t been the only ones to benefit from the base’s large-scale development ongoing here since 1999.

“I’m continually impressed with the way the team here and local community have pulled together to make this venture a reality,” the general said. “Everyone involved, both civilian and military has been eager and ready to receive this airlift mission.”

Col. Dave Goldfein, 52nd Fighter Wing commander, accompanied the general on the tour and credited the hard work of hundreds of people over several years with the success of RMTP and the wing’s evolving mission.

“The outstanding work of the engineers, architects, contractors, commanders and so many other key people have helped to keep us on time and under budget,” Colonel Goldfein said.

“As the infrastructure continues toward completion, we’ll focus on the operational integration of this new mission into our wing,” the colonel said. “There will be no ‘tenant’ or ‘host’ here -- there will be one Spangdahlem (AB) team, responsible for fighter, airlift and air control missions. We look forward to welcoming the AMC brethren into the Eifel family.”

The general underscored his “big picture” vantage point.

“We all wear the same thing opposite our name tape -- U.S. Air Force,” he said. “The AMC and USAFE missions (are) ultimately the Air Force mission.”
