2006 USAFE Idol winners announced

The 2006 USAFE Idol winners were announced April 22 after a three-hour competition between eight base-level Idol winners. 

In addition to the base-level Idol contestants’ performances, the evening also featured music and entertainment by the USAFE Band “Direct Hit,” the 2005 USAFE Idol winner Maj. Larry Speer and American Idol Season Three finalist George Huff. 

The winners of the 2006 USAFE Idol competition are: 1st Place: Senior Airman Tony Howard, Volkel Air Base, Netherlands; 2nd Place: Staff Sgt. Michelle Miller, Ramstein AB, Germany; 3rd Place: Master Sgt. Douglas Gosselin, Royal Air Force Base Lakenheath, England; Honorable Mentions: MSgt. Irand Denton, RAF Mildenhall, England; Capt. Shelly Frank, RAF Alconbury, England; Capt. Hollie Losee, Lajes Field, Azores; SrA Elizabeth Milliken, Aviano Air Base, Italy; and TSgt Walter Womack, Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. 

The first place winner received two roundtrip airline tickets to the U.S., compliments of American Airlines. Second place received a flat-screen TV, compliments of Vogelweh AAFES PowerZone, and the third place winner received a stereo system.
Five judges rated contestants on technical excellence and showmanship. 

Each contestant was judged on two songs while accompanied by “Direct Hit”. More than 600 people came out to see the contest and to cheer on their favorite Idol.
