USAFE RSS says "goodbye" Published June 14, 2006 By Jennifer McDaniel USAFE/PA RAMSTEIN AIR BASE -- The U.S. Air Force in Europe Regional Supply Squadron was inactivated during an official unit inactivation ceremony at Sembach Air Base June 7. In the next three years the Air Force will transform the current supply operations by merging them into a Global Logistics Support Center in the United States, and this closure marks the first steps in the transition. “The [squadron] has only been around for seven years, but in that short time its members preformed [their] mission by serving USAFE base customers with extreme dedication.” Lt. Col. Mark Hawley, USAFE RSS commander, said. “This ceremony marked the closure of the [squadron’s] chapter in the history of Air Force supply support, as the Air Force evolves toward a Global Logistics Support Center.” Multiple global engagements and continuing reductions in force size and infrastructure have realized the need to adopt a lean, versatile, and expeditionary force. Currently all worldwide bases will be divided by primary weapons systems and fall under one of two Logistics Support Centers, either Langley Air Force base, Va., or Scott Air Force Base, Ill., for all back-shop supply support. The transition has been smooth and seamless and serves as a tribute to the Airmen who have done such an amazing job, said Colonel Hawley.
