All you movie buff's who miss seeing new movies on base need not worry anymore as the new and improved base theatre is scheduled to re-open, Jan 27. The base theatre closed in November for renovations to improve the movie going experience for Incirlik members.

"The base theater is utilized by the Incirlik community," said Stephen Hill, AAFES manager. It is not only our movie theater, but it is also a place where town hall meetings are held, squadron meetings take place, and where anyone from the community can use it for meeting and/or performance use."

According to Mr. Hill, the movie theater was in dire need of a makeover.

"The seats were broken, the movie screen had damage, the sound system needed to be improved, some of the equipment in the food area needed to be replaced, the theater needed to be repainted and the flooring needed a change," he said.

With outstanding support from the 39th Civil Engineer Squadron and Vinnell Brown and Root, new flooring, carpeting, lighting, big screen, seats with cup holders, sound system, food equipment, paint, sound walls, and ceiling tile were all part of the theater's amazing transformation.

Mr. Hill said all of this adds up to a significant quality of life improvement.

Whether you missed the movies or just the nachos, bring your family out to the re-opening where AAFES will be showing two movies starting with "Happy Feet" at 5 p.m. and "Flags of Our Fathers" at 7 p.m.

"It's always nice when we can improve quality of life amenities on base," said Col. "Tip" Stinnette, 39th Air Base Wing commander. "I encourage everyone to come out to the movies and enjoy the new and improved theater."

Movie synopsis -

Happy Feet - Set deep in Antarctica in the land of Emperor Penguins, where each needs a heart song to attract a soul mate, a penguin is born who cannot sing. The hero Mumble, son of Memphis and Norma Jean, is the worst singer in the world - however, as it happens, he is a brilliant tap dancer! Rated PG (mild peril, rude humor) 87 min.

Flags of Our Fathers - February 1945. Even as victory in Europe was finally within reach, the war in the Pacific raged on. One of the most crucial and bloodiest battles of the war was the struggle for the island of Iwo Jima, which culminated with what would become one of the most iconic images in history: five Marines and a Navy corpsman raising the American flag on Mount Suribachi. The inspiring photo capturing that moment became a symbol of victory to a nation that had grown weary of war and made instant heroes of the six American soldiers at the base of the flag, some of whom would die soon after, never knowing that they had been immortalized.Rated R (war violence, language) 132 min.
