Services goes for triple crown Published March 23, 2007 By 1st Lt. Rose Richeson 39th Air Base Wing Public Affairs INCIRLIK AIR BASE, Turkey -- The 39th Services Squadron has won the 2007 Air Force Maj. Gen. Eugene L. Eubank Award for Best Small Services Squadron in the Air Force. "All credit and congratulations go to my front-line customer service personnel, with whom the base populace interacts daily. They rock," said Lt. Col. Dale Bruner, 39th SVS commander. The squadron was informed of its win March 19. This award follows four wins at the U.S. Air Forces in Europe level over the past six years and two consecutive wins at the Air Force level in 2002 and 2003. The Air Force-level win follows behind the Hodja Inn winning the 2006 Air Force Innkeeper Award for Best Lodging, in the Air Force in the Large Category and behind the Sultan's Inn Dining Facility winning the 2007 USAFE Food Excellence Award on its way to possibly winning the 2007 John L. Hennessy Award for Best Dining Facility, in the Air Force in the Single Category. "We're hoping for the triple crown or grand slam of services," said Colonel Bruner. After visiting Kunsan Air Base, Korea, Altus Air Force Base, Okla., F.E. Warren AFB, Wyo., and Grand Forks AFB, N.D., the Air Force Eubank team visited Incirlik AB in early February, evaluating 39th SVS over a period of several days before continuing on to Bolling AFB, D.C., Whiteman AFB, Mo., and Arnold AFB, Tenn. The team evaluated each base's Services squadron on customer satisfaction/focus, leadership, facilities, and programs. Services squadron recognition dates back to 1965, when the Order of Daedalians established the Gen Curtis E. LeMay Award to recognize excellence in programming and service. In 1990, the Order of Daedalians established large (6,000 personnel or more) and small (less than 6,000 personnel) base categories. The large base category retained the Gen. Curtis E. LeMay Award while the small base category award was given the name Maj. Gen. Eugene L. Eubank Award. The 39th SVS will receive its award April 13 at the National Museum of the United States Air Force at the end of the Air Force Services Worldwide Conference at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.
