Members of Spangdahlem Air Base opened their gates to 68 members of the Bitburg Police Station for a work outing to learn about some of the base's capabilities Sept. 4.

During this two hour familiarization tour, Bitburg Police Station officers, employees and retirees visited the Military Working Dog section where a dog handler gave them a short agility demonstration. The visit included a tour of the 52nd Security Forces Squadron armory where the visitors took a closer look at the weapons. Next, a stop at Hangar 1 allowed the visitors to observe planes up close. A visit to the new Air Mobility Center terminal was included in the tour.

Bitburg police officer, Wolfgang Zenner, said he found the visit enlightening.

"It was an interesting tour," Mr. Zenner said. He is on base all the time to work with the military police, but never had such an insight of the different areas on base.

Günther Colling, who works at the juvenile delinquency department, said he enjoyed the tour and was surprised at how big the base is, and how well everything turned out over the years.

Overall, everybody enjoyed the guided tour around the base.
