Aircraft crashes, pilot successfully ejects Published Sept. 18, 2007 By Staff Reports 31st Fighter Wing Public Affairs AVIANO AIR BASE, Italy -- A pilot from Aviano Air Base successfully ejected from an F-16 military aircraft at approximately 6:30 p.m. Sept. 18 while on a routine high-altitude training mission. Initial reports indicate the pilot, Maj. Timothy Palmer, assigned to the 510th Fighter Squadron, is in good condition pending further evaluation at a medical treatment facility. The aircraft crashed in a remote area 30 miles northwest of Aviano Air Base. Local Carabinieri [police] and emergency response teams have responded to the site. Air Force personnel at Aviano have offered their assistance at the crash site. A board of qualified officers will investigate the accident.
