A group of ladies from Brandon village known as the Brandon Knitters, visited the hospital at RAF Lakenheath Sept. 12 to view the maternity ward where their donated layettes are given to newborn babies.

Hosted by Major Linda Denny, 48th Medical Inpatient Squadron. Lisa Carter, Elizabeth Cowell, Doreen Salmon and Maude Stuart toured the maternity ward where mothers and babies reside until released from the hospital.

New parents also receive a welcome packet for their newborn consisting of goodies such as a gift card for a free baby layette from the Airman and Family Readiness Center, a small diaper bag, diapers, coupons and formula.

"The layettes provide a wonderful keepsake for our parents," Said Major Denny. "We greatly appreciate the Brandon Knitters loving work."

In addition to the layettes and welcome packet, parents can also take advantage of the Bundles for Babies class held at the Airman and Family Readiness Center which focuses on budgeting for a baby, bonding with your baby and childcare options.

"What a wonderful gift these ladies provide for our newborn babies. They keep the cabinet stocked full of beautiful baby layettes of many different colors and sizes," said Denise Blount, Community Readiness Consultant of the Airman and Family Readiness Center.

The 48th Medical Inpatient Squadron performs an average of 50 births from mothers at RAF Lakenheath, RAF Mildenhall and RAF Alconbury each month at the largest Air Force hospital in Europe located at RAF Lakenheath hospital.
