Project CHEER adds spice to life of single and unaccompanied Airmen in USAFE Published Sept. 28, 2007 By USAFE News Services U.S. Air Forces in Europe SEMBACH AIR BASE, Germany (USAFENS) -- Enhancing the quality of life for our single and unaccompanied (SUM) Airmen is what Project CHEER is all about! The Fiscal Year 08 Project CHEER program is gearing up to be the best yet with over $140,000 in cash and in-kind sponsorship- all to be used for prizes and implementing a variety of amazing and unique programs. From 1 Nov 07 to 31 Mar 08 the FY 08 Project CHEER program will feature cash prizes, a Wrestlemania trip giveaway, and hundreds of exciting and fun events throughout the season. Also, new to the FY 08 program is the unveiling of a super cool and dynamic web site, www.projectcheer.org, featuring information on prizes, giveaways, events and all the USAFE command programs taking place. Project CHEER stands for Creating Hope, Energy, Enthusiasm and Recreation for our young Airmen and runs from November through March annually. It's designed to provide additional support to single and unaccompanied Airmen ages 18-25 during the winter months and holidays when needed most. The special interest program develops and implements special events and programming that provide Airmen with various opportunities to socialize, relax and enjoy themselves. According to Mandy Smith-Nethercott, USAFE's command Project CHEER point of contact, there are hundreds of different activities bases can offer as a part of their Project CHEER program. "Each base will host a variety of fun activities for Airmen such as ski trips, fitness runs, Armed Forces Entertainment concerts and movie nights," Smith-Nethercott said. "Services is proud to play a big part in the program by offering several USAFE Services command programs such as Fantasy Football, Texas Hold'em, Auto Cosmic Bowling and USAFE Paintball," she added. Commercial sponsors are also proud to be part of the program with cash and in-kind coming in to support the program. "We have phenomenal support from sponsors for this year's program - we have lots of prizes to give away including a Wrestlemania trip and cash prizes, said Smith-Nethercott.
