U.S. Air Forces in Europe libraries will celebrate National Library Week April 13-17 by holding special story hours, featuring book displays and posters, pizza parties and more.
RAF Lakenheath and RAF Croughton customers in the United Kingdom will compete against each other and state-side Air Force libraries during a "Fitness Throwdown" cycling event in support of the week's theme, "Worlds Connect at Your Library."

"Every day, libraries help transform their communities," said Melinda Mosley, command librarian. "In our Air Force libraries in Europe, people of all ages and backgrounds come together for programs, to do research with the assistance of a librarian, to use free Internet, to find out about jobs on base, email their deployed spouse, do their homework, check out books or movies, or to just use the library as a place to kick back and relax."

Last year, USAFE counted more than 1.1 million visitors to its libraries or website, http://www.usafelibraries.org, said Ms. Mosley.

"We're honored to be such a popular haven and destination place for so many people."
First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association and U.S. libraries each April.
