Chief Master Sgt. James Lucas, 48th Fighter Wing command chief, was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his actions during a recent deployment to the 732nd Air Expeditionary Group.

According to the award citation, Chief Lucas had a number of outstanding accomplishments including orchestrating operations necessary to receive, train, equip, deploy and redeploy 1,500 combat Airmen, the group's largest rotation to date.

He also conducted five outside-the-wire combat vehicle and foot patrols with the Air Force's most heavily engaged security forces unit.

Chief Lucas was awarded the Bronze Star Medal by Col. Jay Silveria, 48th FW commander, for his time in Iraq where he acted as the 732nd AEG superintendant.

"I feel very privileged and honored," said Chef Lucas. "I am very humbled to be in the company of others who have received this award."

Chief Lucas added he attributes his receipt of the award to the Airmen he worked for during the deployment.

"It was a really great opportunity to see our Airmen in action," said Chief Lucas. "I have never been more proud of my service or to be an Airman, than in the company of the people I was working with. To watch them rise to the challenge every day was a remarkable experience."
