The 52nd Fighter Wing Top 3 and First IV will be combining forces to host a barbeque for all Airmen at the annual block party Sept. 19. Here, Airmen in the mood for some rivalry and camaraderie can gear up for the first ever "battle of the dorms" competition.

There will be a live disc jockey, food, prizes and many more fun activities for Airmen to get involved in. The event will begin at noon on the basketball and volleyball courts between buildings 227, 335 and 333.

"In the past years, there has not been a very big turnout, but we are trying to change that," said Senior Airman Marrissa Burke, 52nd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and First IV vice president.

Not only is the First IV hosting the block party, but it also will be kicking off the first ever battle of the dorms competition. This competition will be between nine teams with one team per dorm. Each team competes against one another in various activities to win the battle of the dorms trophy.

Each of the nine teams will consist of 17 players participating in four activities. The activities include three on three basketball with two 10 minute halves, tug-of-war with six Airmen per team, six on six volleyball with two 10 minute halves and an "amazing race." The amazing race competition is based on the "Amazing Race" television show. In this case, nine teams consisting of two Airmen per team, race across base from location to location to solve a riddle or task until they reach the finish line.

The team that wins the most events wins the trophy.

"Battle of the dorms is in full effect. Bring your game faces!" said Airman 1st Class Mahawah Barber, 52nd Logistics Readiness Squadron.

The Airman's block party is open to all active-duty Airmen; however, only dorm residents can compete in the battle of the dorms competition.
