Incirlik entered the social networking scene by creating web pages for Airmen and their families to visit while on their favorite social networking sites.

In order to keep up with today's fast-paced news and media, the commander and public affairs staff have setup a presence on Facebook and Twitter. This move is designed to reach out to Airmen and their families, here and back in the CONUS, to give them the information they need in the most convenient way possible.

Facebook has more than 200 million users worldwide and Twitter is an ever-growing networking site with more than 28 million users worldwide.

"Social media is a part of life for today's generation," said Col. Eric Beene, 39th Air Base Wing commander. "I want our Airmen to have the ability to receive information they want and need in a medium that is familiar to them. Social media will help me highlight the good things this wing does every day, and it will allow me to get the message out ... in 140 characters or less. It's another way for me to make sure we remain fit, focused and fighting for what's right."

The base Facebook page offers news updates, photo albums and with nearly 700 fans in the first two weeks, it offers the opportunity to network with others.

Twitter offers instant updates and brief descriptions of news and events concerning the base.
