Mrs. Paula Roy tours Lakenheath

ROYAL AIR FORCE LAKENHEATH, England - --  Paula Roy, wife of Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James Roy, visited the 48th Fighter Wing for the first time March 13, 2012.

During her visit, Mrs. Roy wanted to find out what makes families here strong and resilient.

"Every family is different, but some of the things that make an Air Force family strong, are individual selflessness, lots of patience and of course a foundation of support that creates resiliency," she said.
Mrs. Roy visited the Education and Development Intervention Services at the 48th Medical Group, where she saw firsthand how families of children with special needs are supported.

Later, she toured the recently upgraded Child Development Center and met with a few parents of children enrolled there.

Mrs. Roy was pleased to see how well Liberty Airmen and their families were being taken care of.

"From what I can see we are meeting the needs of our Airmen and families here," she said, "The feeling that I get here is that the morale is great and that's key."

She concluded her visit at the Airman and Family Readiness Center where she discussed the various family support initiatives, such as the Key Spouse and Spouse to Spouse programs.

To Mrs. Roy, the most important function of these programs is to help families develop resiliency.

"Resiliency is the ability to bounce back," said Mrs. Roy. "It helps military members and families overcome the unique challenges of military life."

Mrs. Roy left the 48th FW very impressed with what she had seen.

"I'm leaving here with a confidence and assuredness that our people are in great hands."
