Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson visited with Wyvern Warriors at Aviano Air Base, Italy on April 24.

Wilson was able to directly see and experience the many missions of the 31st Fighter Wing and how Aviano supports warfighters and contributes to the national defense strategy.

Speaking of the 31 FW, Wilson said, “It is probably one of the most diverse wings in the U.S. Air Force. The neat thing about Aviano is it has these multiple missions that it does simultaneously. It’s an amazing base for the Air Force and a real challenge for the Airmen who are stationed here.”

During her visit, Wilson spoke with Airmen from different mission sets to hear about their successes and improvements to their jobs.

“Any day out with Airmen is a really good day. I love to see the innovation of Airmen, particularly when they work in teams, swarm at problems and just get after the mission,” Wilson said.

Wilson also recognized exceptional Airmen who have brought unique innovations to the 31 FW. They were coined by her for their efforts.

Speaking about executing the National Defense Strategy, Wilson expressed the importance of maintaining and restoring readiness.

“We have to create more time on the calendar to be able to train and prepare for that high-end fight,” said Wilson, “So restoring the readiness of the force to win any fight, any time is priority one.”
