The 100th Air Refueling Wing held a mission assurance exercise Aug. 27-28 to test Airmen readiness and measure responses throughout the wing.

The main purpose of this exercise was to demonstrate how rapidly 100th ARW Airmen would be able to organize an entire wing and prepare for the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle, or drone, by adversaries.

This is the first exercise at RAF Mildenhall to feature a drone-related scenario.

“During exercises, our units are allowed the opportunity to do stuff they may not necessarily do every day, but still are pertinent to either our area of responsibility, our mission or the safety and readiness of our Airmen,” said Master Sgt. Alicia Goetschel, 100th ARW inspection and exercise planner.

The exercise also focused on cargo deployment processing, aircraft generation, intelligence gathering and distribution, as well as other simulated scenarios.

There are always different objectives to be met for every exercise, but mission readiness and the efficiency with which a mission is conducted is of the utmost importance.

This exercise was performed in alignment with 100th ARW Commander Col. Christopher Amrhein’s goal of having the Bloody Hundredth become an even more prepared and proficient unit, capable of dealing with any critical situation.

“Exercises like this hone our abilities to execute rapidly across the spectrum of conflict,” Amrhein said. “I believe the 100th is focused and prepared to take on any real world challenges that may arise in this dynamic theater. We will continue to train in the most realistic way to ensure our Airmen remain at the highest state of readiness.”
