Historical Highlights: Vigilance in sharp focus 45 years after USAFE Headquarters bombing
A graphic depicting the aftermath of the Aug. 31, 1981, bombing of U.S. Air Forces in Europe Headquarters at Ramstein Air Base, Germany. Members of the Red Army Faction detonated a vehicle-borne bomb outside the headquarters building, injuring 12 Americans and two Germans and damaging the building and approximately 50 vehicles. The attack led to increased security measures across USAFE installations and remains a reminder of the importance of vigilance and force protection.
