U.S. completes withdrawal from AB 201
Maj. Gen. Kenneth Ekman, Department of Defense West Africa Coordination Element Lead, U.S. Africa Command, Amb. Kathleen Fitzgibbon, U.S. Ambassador to Niger, Colonel Major Mamane Sani Kiaou, Nigerien Chief of Army Staff and other Nigerien military staff members walk through Air Base 201 in Agadez, Niger. Over the past decade, U.S. troops have trained Niger's forces and supported partner-led counterterrorism missions against Islamic State and al Qaeda in the region. The Air Base 201 turnover is a significant milestone in the U.S. military withdrawal from Niger and was a byproduct of effective cooperation and communication between both nations.
